People Thought I Was Crazy

In 1909 twenty-two year old Alice Ramsey became the first woman to drive across the United States in an automobile.  Sounds strange to us rv'ers who do that as a lifestyle, but back then people thought she was crazy.  Looking at what passed for a road through Nevada I might see their point a little bit.

Here's a great link to the whole story at the Smithsonian's website. Nice bit of feminist history.  Don't forget to check out my friends at Monday Mural too.

What have you done that makes people think you're crazy?  Homeschooling was a biggie for us, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

  1. You go girl! Interesting mural and facts. I'll have to check out your link. What have I done that makes people think I'm crazy? Probably backcountry skiing. When my friends and I are skiing uphill at Timberline ski area, we get lots of looks.

  2. Now that is my kind of woman! Thanks for the link about her. I have Horatio's Drive by Dayton Duncan and Ken Burns. I'll probably seek out a copy of Alice's book now.

  3. People think I'm crazy because I love traveling by myself. And if I have time, I'd much rather drive anywhere than fly. What can I say...I'm really a gypsy. Bill will be in China for three weeks in May/June and I'm still contemplating what I'll do with those three glorious weeks.

  4. In 1909, that would have been a real challenge.

  5. A few people think we're crazy for coming back to Oregon in January! Some thought we were crazy for leaving our good jobs and nice house and moving into 300SF metal house on wheels.

  6. All that sense of adventure and courage hidden in crinoline and lace. Amazing. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  7. I have always admired strong, independent woman. My favorite is Babe Didrikson Zaharias. Others I admire are Clara Barton, Juliette Gordon Lowe and Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Lets see, what makes people think I'm crazy? My mom hated it when I went sky diving but that was pretty cool. Plus I will still climb 40 ft. up a tree to find a geocache.
