Getting Suspended

One of the short stops Sharon and I made in the Red River Gorge was to the Sheltowee Trace Suspension Bridge trailhead.

We actually crossed the Sheltowee Trace a few times as we made our way around.  I'm sure it's a great 269 mile trail, but I've got more bit off than I can chew with the Ice Age Trail as it is, right?

It's about a 10 minute walk from the trailhead to the suspension bridge.  At least 3 of the wooden planks were split and had sections missing.  Not very reassuring as I crossed to the other side, but the movement of the bridge was actually kind of nice and I enjoyed it.

Sharon was a little more concerned about the bridge's safety than I was so she only came onto it a short distance, took a few pictures and made her way back to safety.

As fun as it was crossing the bridge the real wow moment of the short walk was coming upon those boulders in the water.  Gorgeous!

It was back to work for me today, I was strung out on chocolate nibbles all afternoon, it's a wonder I didn't crash from all the sugar I kept popping in my mouth.  We're getting some great weather coming our way in Wisconsin later this week, don't be surprised if I end up on the Ice Age Trail again, but I've got quite a few more posts from Kentucky yet to share.

  1. Wonderful suspension bridge! And great boulders! Exactly where are these fascinating trails you went on anyway?

    1. The trails were in the Red River Gorge area of Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. Here's a link to a page with map link that shows most of the trailheads available. http://rrgtoday.com/maps.html

  3. You were kind.....the truth is, Sharon doesn't do well on anything that wobbles!! LOL! But I totally loved that walk out to the bridge and back. Glad we persevered in finding it despite the lack of enthusiasm from Miss Visitor Center extraordinaire!
