It's been quite awhile since I've had an opportunity to share a Post Office Mural. While in Door County last Monday I darted in to the Sturgeon Bay Post Office to see theirs.
Entitled "Fruits of Sturgeon Bay" it was painted in 1940 by Santos Zingale. For more New Deal murals click my label at the bottom of this post, for more Monday Murals click here.
Post Office murals aren't the only "art" I found in Door County. The Chocolate Chicken in Egg Harbor had some art on display in their seating area, but I was more interested in art of the culinary kind. I bought a pound of the Sticky Bun Decaf but I just admired the chocolate chickens and their strange clutch of eggs.
Wonderfull mural at post office ,Greeting from Belgium.

I love murals that tell part of a town's story like this one.
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate chickens look a little odd... but funny!
A nice mural which shows the daily life of the fishermen.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing New Deal murals. It's amazing what the artists could do in such a tight space. Bless FDR. I don't think there's much around Oakland; we don't seem to have old post office buildings anymore. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteLove the mural! Have you ever been to Ocean Springs MS to see the Walter Anderson murals. Knock your sox off!! There were several in the town of Delta, Colorado that I drove through yesterday and I so wanted to stop and look closely at them but I was in a rush to pick up a walk in campsite at Black Canyon so I didn't. Good thing too as we got the last site into which Winnona would fit.
ReplyDeleteI was just telling Ron about the post office murals. We should pop into all these old post offices that we pass by.
