Chippewa Falls had a few murals, including this attempt at rejuvenating local history.
Not much info to be found on the internet, I should have stopped inside. All I could find was that the building was erected in 1907. Nice attempt on the part of the supporters of local art to bring back advertising murals which is kind of a trend these days in Wisconsin.
I'm linking to Monday Murals as usual, check some out!
i love these old adverts!
ReplyDeleteI like these old advert signs. I will admit to sometimes feeling a little unsure about towns with so many murals of the 'way it was'. so much history lost and now really mostly only relevant to the people who still live there. but that doesn't mean I don't think they should be done, just that I'm sometimes more drawn to these.
ReplyDeleteFunny as today the term "meat market" has a new and different meaning.
ReplyDeleteI like these a lot! they will be great ghost signs one day.
ReplyDeleteWe call them painted wall signs and the first is regarded a ghost sign Impressive though.
ReplyDeleteI like looking at them if I know the history that goes along with the signs.
ReplyDeletelove these old ghost signs
ReplyDeleteThis is the first created ghost sign I've seen. Chippewah Falls should be proud of this effort to highlight old buildings and preserve local history. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteThe Bischel Meat Market ghost sign on the south side of the building is authentic, not reproduced. We love it! On the north side of the building a group of artists painted many mural around town including the New Bischel mural and Art Gallery Sign. The building is home to Chippewa Falls Main Street now.
