St. John's Mural

When my cousin Allison and I went on that walk to Signal Hill we passed a great mural.

The mural was created by Derek Holmes in 2008 and is holding up very well for the weather it has endured!

The scenes depict the Battery area in times past, with fish drying on the flakes...

...and can you imagine carrying buckets or pushing wheelbarrows up those hills which would not even have been paved?

After the work was done there was time for music.  I love that in this image the woman wears a scarf on her head much like the photo I posted another recently of my mother-in-law with a similar look.

Can't catch cod without nets, and it was work to mend them.  Look at the view behind the men of the Narrows, complete with a few brightly colored homes.

There is still lots of colorful homes to liven up a grey day in the Battery, but don't come expecting to find any place to park your car!

Linking up to Monday Mural.

  3. Fabulous mural and it's holding up quite well. I see the colourful houses in the mural reflect the real thing. Cute town.
