Walking on Water Street

While in Newfoundland we did pop in to the capital city of St. John's of course.

A visit to St. John's isn't complete without a stroll down Water Street and a look inside the Downhome Shoppe where you can buy some Newfie memorabilia, or just have a good laugh at some of the items on display.

Love these!

The big surprise was all the signs of Gay Pride downtown.  Who says Newfoundland is backwards?  Not in today's world of global news, information, and ideas.  Even the crosswalk in little Placentia was painted in the Gay Pride rainbow, and it gladdened my heart to know that Newfoundland is working so hard to promote love and not hate.

We didn't go into the candy store, but couldn't help noticing it, that's for sure.

The window display of accordions at O'Brien's music was eyecatching as well.  In 1939 Roy O'Brien opened the doors of O'Brien's Music at 278 Water Street in downtown St. John's at a time when Newfoundland was still its own country. A great place to pick up some Newfoundland music!

But we were on our way to The Rooms museum to meet Jim and Donnie for lunch, not out on a shopping spree.

It didn't take long for Wayne to get distracted from the storefronts and want to walk down by the water and see what was on the go down there.

I was agreeable since I was busy working on the world's best tasting cinnamon roll that I bought at Rocket Bakery.  There's always room for a cinnamon roll before lunch, right?

There is lots to see in the oldest city in North America, and even on a gray day you can be sure to find some color to cheer you up! Just be careful on those hilly streets!
